GLOBALG.A.P. is the world's leading farm assurance standard, translated into local certification schemes in many countries. It covers the entire agricultural production process from before the seed is planted until the product leaves the farm. GLOBALG.A.P. is a business-to-business (B2B) standard and is not directly visible to consumers.

Traceability Requirements

GLOBALG.A.P. requires certified producers to maintain complete traceability from farm to first point of sale. Key traceability requirements include: unique identification of each registered production unit; maintenance of records for all inputs (seeds, fertilisers, pesticides, water); harvest records linking produce to specific production units; and documentation of all post-harvest handling operations.

Certification Process

GLOBALG.A.P. certification is conducted by approved certification bodies (CBs) through annual inspections. Producers must demonstrate compliance with all applicable control points in the GLOBALG.A.P. standard. Certification is valid for one year and must be renewed annually. Certified producers are listed in the GLOBALG.A.P. database, which can be accessed by buyers to verify certification status.

Scope

GLOBALG.A.P. covers: fruits and vegetables; flowers and ornamentals; combinable crops (cereals, oilseeds); green coffee; tea; aquaculture; livestock (cattle, pigs, poultry, dairy); and compound feed manufacturing. The standard is updated every four years through a multi-stakeholder consultation process.
