FSMA 204

FDA Food Safety Modernization Act Section 204 Food Traceability Rule. Requires enhanced traceability records for foods on the Food Traceability List.

CTE (Critical Tracking Event)

A point in the food supply chain where traceability records must be created and maintained under FSMA 204. CTEs include growing, receiving, transforming, creating, and shipping.

KDE (Key Data Element)

Specific data that must be recorded at each Critical Tracking Event under FSMA 204. KDEs include the Traceability Lot Code, quantity, product description, and location.

TLC (Traceability Lot Code)

A unique identifier assigned to a food at the point of creation or first receipt under FSMA 204. The TLC links traceability records across the supply chain.

FTL (Food Traceability List)

The FDA's list of high-risk foods subject to enhanced traceability requirements under FSMA 204. Includes leafy greens, tomatoes, peppers, shell eggs, nut butters, and seafood.

GFSI (Global Food Safety Initiative)

A benchmarking organisation that recognises private food safety standards (SQF, BRC, IFS). GFSI-recognised certification is required by major retailers worldwide.
