Mandatory Labelling Elements
- ☐ Name of the food (legal name or customary name)
- ☐ List of ingredients (in descending order of weight)
- ☐ Allergens highlighted in the ingredients list
- ☐ Net quantity (in metric units)
- ☐ Date of minimum durability ('best before') or use-by date
- ☐ Storage conditions and/or conditions of use
- ☐ Name and address of food business operator
- ☐ Country of origin or place of provenance (where required)
- ☐ Instructions for use (where necessary)
- ☐ Nutrition declaration (per 100g/100ml)
Allergen Declaration
The 14 major allergens must be emphasised in the ingredients list using a different font, style, or background colour. Common methods include: bold text; italic text; underlined text; or a different background colour. The emphasis must be consistent throughout the label.
Nutrition Labelling
The nutrition declaration must include: energy (kJ and kcal); fat; saturates; carbohydrate; sugars; protein; and salt. Values must be expressed per 100g or 100ml. Additional voluntary information (fibre, vitamins, minerals) may be included. Front-of-pack nutrition labelling is voluntary under EU FIC but may be required by national regulations.
